Hello all, I'm thinking of getting a full size .45, I currently have a Para Ord. P10, nice gun but no accuracy for fun shooting. I like it but it's a little tough to put back together. I'd like to get a full size 5" barrel 1911 style and was looking for some opinions. I've looked on line and saw some nice "looking" pieces by Para Ord., Colt and Springfield in my price range $500-$900 but would like to hear some input from people that might have any one of the above brands or maybe diferent brands. Things like accuracy, esase of breakdown and reassembly, which ones feed mutliple style rounds and maybe affordability and availability of performance parts incase I ever wanted to trick it out.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I have G.I. 1911A1s and those from Colt (Series 70) and Springfield. Prices on original 1911A1s and Colts are a bit high. I bought two used 1911A1 Springfields and really like them. They were priced right, are easy to disassemble and shoot very well. Hope this helps. I would shop the used gun counters. All the best...

I have the Springfield 1911A1 mil-spec. i love it adn the price was right $425 brand new 4 yrs ago (prices are higher now). You may also look at the Taurus PT1911. It is a fine gun in its own right, but i have a hard timie adjusting the the Henie sights. Kimber also makes a nice 1911

Thanks for the input guys. Something keeps me wanting a Springfield, guess it's because you hear so much about them and from what I've heard they are easy to find parts for.
Another question if yall don't mind. Would you buy one with a match grade barrel on it or would you buy a basic model and get the barrel seperate? I don't really care about all the fancy triggers and hammers, don't really see the need. But a good barrel for accuracy would be nice. It seems the only diference between a $600 pistol and a $1000 pistol of the same brand is all the parts on them and maybe grips and coatings but again I don't really care about all that, just a reliable gun that doesn't jam and is accurate.
I would love to buy a Kimber, best looking guns IMO and I know they are well made but a little on the pricey end. I thnk I could get the same performance out of a Springfield but for less money.

It depends regarding a match barrel. I would get a pistol with a stock barrel and shoot it. To date, I have done that and never had a need for a match barrel. Take care...

I am currently the owner of 3 springfields, every one of them a super accurate pistol. the most accurate, believe it or not is their 4" Lightweight Champion, without a bushing and it employs their recoil system.

If I got rid of all my guns, this would be the ONE to keep. Came standard with:
Novak night sights
Ambi safety
Beavertail
Pierce grips
2 Springfield mags [function great]
Match adjustable trigger
And she shoots too!!!!
Well worth the $600!
