Here are a couple of pictures of a Ruger Super Redhawk in 454 Casull and here is a list of work performed on this gun -

1 - The barrel to cylinder gap from the factory was .019 but was closed to .004. Shooting the same identical loads before any barrel work was done, there was a velocity gain of 190 fps. by reducing the barrel to cylinder gap. Bullet velocity was tested both before and after were SPEER's 260 gr. JHP...

2 - The muzzle was recrowned with a recessed 90 degree crown...

3 - The front sight was removed and a muzzle brake was screwed onto the barrel after recrowning. Felt recoil reduction is over 50% less than without a brake with near "0" muzzle rise...

4 - The forcing cone was cut to the proper angle and depth for best possible accuracy potential from a revolver...

5 - Both the barrel and brake were bead blasted to a matte finish after all barrel and brake work was completed...

6 - The trigger was reworked for a lighter and crisper pull in both single and double action mode...

7 - The custom Weigand scope base was attached with 4-side attaching screws that allow the scope to have the windage adjusted with the use of the base to help preserve the scopes internal adjustment. These screws fit into the Ruger cut-outs that they use for their own specific rings. Both the top strap and base were modified to accept two 8-40 screws as added insurance against the base ever moving from recoil...

8 - 4-Millett angle lock rings were used to secure a Bushnell 2X-6X Trophy handgun scope to the base...

9 - The Ruger grip was replaced with a Hogue grip to help keep the shooting hand from getting "bit" by the trigger guard...

10 - The cylinder was"bushed" to take the side to side play out of it and tighten it up...

This gun - with full power 454 Casull loads will keep 6-shots inside a 3" circle at 100 yards and inside a 7" circle at 200 yards. Not the best shooting on my part but it will more than take care of any deer or hog that I may come across...

I hope you like the pictures....

Nice job Assassin. Did you have to set the barrel back to close up the cylinder gap? I was also wondering do you make your own brakes?

Pretty impressive! How do you carry it in the field?

This was the way I had my SRH set up. There are only a couple of ways to carry one of these biggies thats works for me. Either put a barrel band sling swivel on the barrel and drill and tap for a swivel on the butt and put a sling on it or carry it in a bag holster that goes across your chest. I had a bag holster for mine.

I don't handgun hunt anymore so both my Redhawks ended up being traded for other guns. I kept the aimpoint and it's now on my turkey shotgun.

Here was my other one. It had the 5.5 inch bbl and my son mostly carried it. Both these guns were just plain scary accurate with 255 grain cast .430 bullets.

I've never owned a 454, but in a SRH with porting that's got to be a durned nice gun to shoot. I went to a light (34 ounce) 41 mag for a woods carry gun and it came ported. It's pleasant to shoot, but you sure need earplugs with full power loads. It's well beyond tollarable as far as sound goes.

Taurus Stainless five shot four inch Tracker in 41 mag.

faucettb - thank you Sir...

When I bought the gun new, the barrel to cylinder gap was .019 but after "reworking" the barrel and setting the barrel back to a .004 barrel to cylinder gap, I gained an additional velocity of 190 fps.. Yes Sir, I do make my own brakes and keep a 10 foot long piece of 416 stainless steel for just such an occasion since I make and install several just about every week that goes by. Nice looking handguns you got there as well - very nice....

Dan - thank you Sir...

I set my handguns up two different ways for field carry. One way it with an Uncle Mikes cross draw shoulder holster. I carry this way on foul weather days...

The second way is with a "sling carry system". By this method, when I install a muzzle brake on a barrel like the one pictured above, I'll drill and tap the bottom center of the brake, just in front of the barrel/brake junction and install a sling swivel stud. I then set up a Hogue grip with a sling swivel stud with a system that I developed nearly 20 years ago. This is one of the neatest, best and simplest ways of carring a handgun, especially when chasing hogs through the woods. Put the sling over your off shoulder and let the gun hang at waist level on your shooting hand side. Carrying the gun in this manner, your hand is always on the grip to keep the gun from swinging wildly from side to side and when you get ready to put it in action, it takes less than 2 full seconds to hold, aim and fire. You can also use the sling as a "brace" when it tightens up against your back when you bring it up in the firing position. When customizing hunting revolvers like the ones I have pictured above, nearly 90% of customers have me set them up for sling carry. This type carry works well for both the Ruger Super Redhawk and Super Blackhawk....

Howdy folks, new guy here.

I am hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. Ya see, I need a LEFT HANDED low slung belt holster for a 454Casull Ruger Super Redhawk with a 7.5 inch barrel

I’m going a little bats to trying to find what I need.

Any ideas guys?
