Tonite I found an A-bolt in 6.5-284. Thia was stamped in the side of the barrel where it would normally be. It looked very good and professional. Is this possibly a custom job from Browning and would anyone dare to buy it? It seems as though it would suit me well as an all-around hunting rifle.

It could be from Browning, but more likely, it's a rebarrel from a custom gunsmith. You probably would want to have the headspace checked by a gunsmith and perhaps do a chamber cast to see if any special work has been done on the throat. Sometimes custom throats have been cut or rifling twists have been made for heavy bullets rather than standard bullets. Usually a faster twist is used for extremely heavy bullets. If any of the above have been done you may require a set of custom dies to match the chamber.

The 6.5 by 284 is an excellent long range cartridge.

At the Browning website there is a chronology of history and model introductions. An A-bolt in 284 calibre is mentioned for 1989.
