I recently had reminton rebarrel a 700 7mm ultra mag, and noticed when I got the gun back that they had also changed the recever, is this normal?? my other receaver had fancy scrolling on it, the new one nothing,

Welcome to the forum.

You might call Remington and ask. I wouldn't expect them to do that unless there was a physical problem with the old receiver.

It's possible that there was a mistake at the factory, as well.

Best call and find out.

It is a mix up and or an FFL violation. Check the serial number on the receiver and make sure it is the same as the one you sent off. It could very well be a mix up and they sent you some one elses rifle by mistake. If not then they have commited an FFL violation by transfering your old number to a new receiver. Any time a controled gun part is found to be defective while in the hands of an FFL holding manufacturer they have to send in paperwork to have that number destroyed and essentially have to build a new action with a new number.
