I was just checking out the new Mossberg 4x4 line. They look impressive and based on what I've heard about the Mossberg 100 line, I'll bet they're very nice shooters and likely just as good as anything else on the market.

I was wondering what you-all experts were thinking of the Mossberg line of rifles.

I might pick one up for my dad for our Western trip this year in either .270 or 25.06

thoughts??

i just reread an article on budget bolt guns ( rifle magazine, i think) anyhow they like the mossberg better than the rem 710 or the savage 200. it was also the most accurate of the 3.

No expert here, but, I have a 100ATR in .270 w/synthetic stock. I made the mistake of buying the "package" with the scope. It took a while to zero (3 boxes of ammo), It is a $50 Tasco World Class. I have since replaced it with a nice Leupold. I get consistant .75" - .95" groups with Federal 130gr. Nosler Ballistic tips. The trigger is a little on the heavy side (about 4 lbs.), but, there's no creep and it breaks clean. I have also added an ATI bipod, it has been a great gun, especially for the money.

I really like the looks of the new 4x4 with the nickel-plating and the laminated wood stock!! Gander Mountain has some of the new 4x4's, but I'm looking for one in .25-06.

A friend of mine bought the ATR last year. It's an average shooter and the trigger needed some work on to get it to break at three pounds. His came with scope bases from Wally world and he put an inexpensive Simmons scope on it. We got two inch groups at a hundred, but his ammo was 15 year old reloads of dubious pedigree.

I don't much care for it, but I'm a Remington fan so that's where that's coming from. His rifle functions OK and it seems to do what it's designed for, i.e be a functional deer rifle.

His is a truck gun and gets rattled around in a pickup gun rack. He told me that the way things are today if it got stolen it wouldn't be the loss some of his expensive rifles would. I'm hoping to get him out hunting with me this fall and we will see what it will do in the woods.
