I bought a CZ Varmint a while ago. It's been my favorite go to the woods coyote and varmint rifle since. It's the heavy barrel version and weighs in just over 7 pounds.

It's a shooter and half inch groups are the norm with it. In fact it shoots so well and recoil is so mild that my old hunting partner picked one up just like it a couple of months ago from Sportsman Warehouse. He stuck it in my safe next to mine so I could mount his scope on it and help him sight it in. We mostly reload at my place and he got enough components to put togather a couple of hundred rounds.

Today I had them both out and cleaned and oiled them. When I sat them side by side I noticed that his barrel was shorter than mine. Shorter by about an inch and a half. Now I'm sort of confused. Both of them say CZ Varmint on the side and I expected them to both have the same specs. I put them on my digital bathroom scale and both weigh the same.

When I got to looking at the barrels the short one is slightly smaller diameter at the muzzle than mine, but heavier near the breach. Now I'm curious so I pull up CZ's web site and start looking at specs. Sure enough the new CZ Varmint is listed with a 24 inch barrel now instead of the 25.5 incher.

Well I'm putting together some loads this evening when it cools down in my workshop and my first stop will be up at the range to see how that inch and a half effects velocity. If I'm getting another 50 fps I'm going to gloat a little.

Any of you folks shooting the 527 Varmint have the 25.5 inch tube vs the 24 inch tube?
