the most experienced reloader i know sold me 2 boxes of 243 80 grn.. man this was a bran new thing..after i shot 2 rds ,my handi rifle turned around and looked at me like id gone crazy..
the recoil and noise significantly more. 1st shot high ,next
close to where commercial ammo hits..i just wasnt ready for the difference on first shot..im thinking where commercial ammo is 3000fps ,,,.. this rd has to be significantly faster.
have no way of telling how much tho.. casing didnt show too much pressure ,, just be a new thing to learn i guess.
one thing tho i dont want to shoot out the throat of my rem .. any comments ..welcome..

Just one comment, Slim. Tell that "friend" of yours "Thanks, but no thanks." and get your money back. Three reasons.
One: you have no idea what he put in those things - and he might not either.
Two: it isn't his face and fingers nestled up next to the gun - it's yours.
Three: selling reloaded ammo requires an Ammunition Manufacturers License, hefty liability insurance and a testing lab to verify the loads are safe - I'd wager he has none of those and is breaking a Federal law by selling reloads. You might mention that to him if he balks at a refund.

Hi there, welcome to the world of reloading.
I would advise you that when you receive a supposedly good load check it in the reloading manuals as every rifle will shoot different and take different load pressures.
Always start low and work your way up towards maxium remember you do not always have to be up there in speed.
Buying a chrony might not be a bad idea if you are interested in speed.

Sorry about the information I thought you were reloading your own.
I would not rely on someone elses work and would start reloading myself, it is not rocket science but you have to use common sense. It is an enjoyable past time.

there is nothing wrong with the guy loading for you, but you really ought to let him use your rifle to work up the loads, if he's willing to do that. if he's not i'd give him his ammo back and be nice about it. it's obvious that you respect the guy and thats good and all, but it isn't worth hurting yourself or your gun over. you say he's an older fellow, to be honest those are some of the worst kind out there because they think that loads from the 50's and 60's are o.k. because it hasn't killed them yet. this is no slight against them, it's just the mindset that comes with years of experience. i.e. i've used " X" number of grains for fourty years and i don't care if they have some new fangled way to read pressure i'm using this because i always have.
just be respectful and do what you think is right, it's your well being at stake.

I reload for a couple of friends, but it's with their materials and I never sell any reloads. I also used their guns to work up the loads in.
The big problem with reloads is that unless they have been developed in your rifle they can be to hot for your gun.
It sounds like they were fairly hot when you fired them. I'd sure not shoot anymore of them. I'd suggest you look at one of the Lee loading kits from Midway or Cabela's. With a set of dies your into reloading for less than a hundred bucks.
Reloading is pretty simple for a rifle case, just two dies and your components. The resizing die punches out the primer and sizes the case to factory specs. Put in a primer, put in the powder, seat a bullet with the bullet seater die and your ready to shoot. I'ts just about that simple.
Ya'll correct me if I'm wrong but it's my understanding that the Handi -rifle is not the very strongest rifle out there either. You can't get one in a magnum caliber can you?

Handi-rifle is not the strongest action on the planet. It is pretty light as well. If the loads were made for a bolt rifle, they could be abit warm for yours.
Ask him "Whats in them?" and report back.
You reported that the brass looked OK so perhaps they are just not what you are used to shooting? Different bullet weight than what you normally shoot?

Hay slim here's a place to get a bunch of info on the NEF Rifles.
http://www.handirifle.com/FAQ's.htm
Ken here's some of the calibers the NEF is available in. It comes in enough high performance calibers that I wouldn't see a problem with magnum cartridges. I don't thing pressures run higher than in any of the non-belted cases.
The only thing I've seen that is a downside of the NEF's is many that are brought into a friends pawn shop are very loose at the pivot pin. He finally quit taking them in because of that. The chart below is from the above site.
