It looks like Louisiana will be going back to the Tag System for its 2007-2008 whitetail deer season. For the last 20 years or so Louisiana has used the honor system with a six deer limit. This season hunters will be issued three buck and three doe tags and will be required to report any deer taken via the internet or a mail in report. This will allow wildlife officials to have an accurate count on deer harvest. I know a lot of hunters who abused the honor system to take a lot more than six deer per year. I often did not get to take a doe because I could not hunt on one of the designated doe days but with the tag system I can take a doe on any day. I think the system will work well for hunters and regulators. Any other thoughts on the issue?

I like the idea personally. I have been living and hunting in Ga. since moving here 16 years ago from La. Our deer herd is to the point now where only 4 or 5 counties don't permit does to be taken on any day of the season. We're at a 12 deer limit at this point with 10 does and 2 bucks allowed. You are issued a license with 12 spaces for info on each kill to be inked in before transporting. But there are many people abusing this system and killing way over their legal limit. I think for the tag system to be an effective tool in determining deer kill each hunter should have to mail in his deer kill record at the end of each year or be unable to purchase one the following year until he or she does. There will be some that lie, of course. But the ones that were over the limit will at least report they filled their quota, which is better than the current system. What do you think?

I'm with you, Jodum.
I've hunted;
in AZ, where, if you were reeeeally lucky, you were drawn for a single buck-only tag;
in Delaware, where I was able to hunt with harvest permits (as many does as I could take) on one of the DuPont estates (yep, the DuPont of gunpowder/chemical fame);
and now in LA , with no tags, but specific doe days.
At least now, with the tags, I can hunt a doe any day if I can get off work in time!

Just read an article in this weekends paper that the new tag system for Louisiana has been put on hold again due to a software problem. Looks like another season with the six deer honor system. I guess I will have to make sure I take off on the designated doe days. So much for progress. Must have been software designed by the lowest bidder or the highest briber.

Well, this being Louisiana, more than likely the highest briber!
Kingfish politics is live and well! ;)
I think I will vote for Sammy Kershaw for Lt Gubner, met him a couple times, a hunter & fisher BEFORE a politician!

At least when Sammy just fiddles around he can do it in style.
