Gentleman,

I have a pre-1964 model 70 rifle. I cannot get the bolt to release.

I have tried pushing the bolt release with the safety in all three positions. I have tried lubricating the mechanism. Nothing the bolt will not release.

I am at a loss.

I have not removed the rifle from the stock.

Help: any ideas?

thanks,

tidbit

I would remove it from the stock, not 100% sure about the pre-64's but I had a problem with mine binding in the stock. Does the release mechanism move the whole way forward?

Do you need to move the bolt release and pull the trigger with an M70 or just move the bolt release?

Its just the bolt release, no need to pull the trigger

jb,

the bolt release moves " slightly"; I don't believe enough to release the bolt.

Shlould I remove the action from the wood and see if it is binding there?

The release has worked without problems in the past.

thanks,

I would certainly remove the stock and see if it worked... Can't hurt.
