If you don't handload I'd stick to something with plentiful factory ammo for years to come.
.25-06, in other words.
Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Rumor has it that they are becoming scarce already. One thing that I do know, the ammo for the super shorts that I have seen is wickedly and inordinately expensive. I have also heard reports of feeding issues, I`d stick with the 25-06.

the wsm's and especially the wssm's don't feed as well, more importantly is the fact that there is nothing to gain in performance from any of them opposed to the standard length cartridges. these short and fat things are merely the flavor of the month so to speak. they don't offer anything better in terms of accuracy or velocity but they are a good way to sell more rifles.... stay with the stuff that has been around and stood the test of time, you'll be much better off!!

to add to that, i think that a sendero in 25/06 would be absolutely kick a**. if you like controlled round feeding the ruger varminter , i think, is available in the 25/06. either one would be wonderful. the ruger #1 in 25/06 is nice and i love my t/c encore with it's 25/06 heavy bbl. the wsm's and wssm's aren't bad cartridges, but they don't offer anything over the standard cartridges. as i said before, they are more marketing gimmick than anything... but as long as it puts rifles on the market and keeps people shooting that is the main thing. as for me, my only 300 magnum will be when i have a 300 H&H put together and in terms of the 7's there isn't much better than the rem. like i said, if it keeps the sales strong so be it but otherwise watch the ballistic tables and use your head... realistically the rem 7 mag doesn't offer enough of a gain over the 280 to justify the extra powder burnt, just the same, i have owned and loved both and will always have at least one or the other, probably both.
