Any one else a fan of this fine magazine? The shotguns and rifles are in the Purdy $ H&H range, but the stories and informational stuff are really on.
It is a Bi- monthly mag, but full of info.
Worth a try in my eyes. Check out the web site too!

Then they started running articles aligning themselves with organizations that I just could not tolerate, so I dropped my subscription a few years ago.

They advertize for a high-brow clientel, offerings way too expensive for my blue-collar blood. I do enjoy the articles tho.

When they started promoting organizations like the Sierra Club and The Wilderness Society, I decided other magazines were much better aligned to my ideologies.

After considerable internal debate, I renewed my subscription the other day. The main reason: good writing. In shooting and hunting circles "good writing" anymore seems to boil down to two requirements: 1 - practical information, and (2) practical information that I (the reader) happen to agree with. Sporting Classics is elitist, but at least their contributors understand the craft of writing, something most "gun-writers" have not even considered or have unsuccessfully feigned. Now, I don't mean to sound harsh or elitist myself, but outdoor writing as literature is nearly dead in our society because the role of hunting has diminished in our politically-correct culture. Most gun-writers are technical writers. That's fine. I read them all the time. But, the pure prose of quality writing is not going to be found in many gun mags. As to Sporting Classics support of spurious organizations, I guess that's something I haven't noticed. They must be disguising it better.
