Looking for ideas on cleaning the outside of the cylinder on my Taurus Titanium revolver.

Tuarus says not to use anything abrasive as it will remove the protective coating. And if that's removed, you can't shoot full power loads. I know...this sounds like complete BS to me, too. Especially from the lips of the 20ish girl that handles the customer service calls at Taurus.

A guy on the 24 hour campfire forum recommended a peroxide/vinegar scrub. Tried that, but there's gotta be a better way. SOmething like JB's bore polish would be ideal, but that would be abrasive.

ANy expericence with this out there? I haven't rubbed my finger to the bone yet, but I think I've rubbed enough off to erase my fingerprint until it grows back.

What did the gal at Taurus recommend? I've two Taurus guns, one an Ultra-light and a stainless Tracker. I've always used a tooth brush and bore cleaner to clean up the black carbon that shooting will deposit. I think my Ultra-light has a bead blasted aluminum frame. Both clean up well with the tooth brush and bore cleaner.

I can't imagine removal of a finish effecting if you could or could not shoot full power loads, but haven't ever owned a titanium handgun.

thanks BOb,

She checked with someone and reported back that I should use Break free. I tried that and it did little.

I've tried to get info from the Taurus website, but there's nothing there about the Ti guns. i agree...it just doesn't make sense that removing a minute surface coating would affect the strength of the cylinder.

I'll ask Tom Gresham today on gun talk. He's had Taurus people on before.

Complete BS. The surface finish is just cosmetic. It's worn off about half of my Ti from being carried in my pocket.

Titanium is somewhat soft so I would not use anything abrasive, no.
