Anyone try necking down the 375 Ruger cartridge to 35 caliber yet ? Or does anyone know of a weblink that has information on this potential .35 caliber wildcat. Thanks

You would be re-inventing the .35 Newton

Or the 358 norma Mag. This should make a dandy cartridge, but so does the 358 Norma mag and it works in 06 length actions also.

Should be more like the 358 G&H Mag. The Ruger case has just a touch more capacity than the full length H&H case, so quite a bit more than the Norma case would have.
I've heard of the Ruger case being necked to 416 and 9.3mm (.366), but have not heard of anyone going to .358 yet. I'm sure someone has, but don't know whom. I would check Pacific Tool & Die to see if they have made a reamer, also check to see if Clymer has made one.

That would be a dandy cartridge for Alaska bear and both moose and elk. I've always liked the big boomers. When I built my 308 Norma I really considered the 358 Norma. At that time I was trying to get close to my buddies 300 ICL Grizzly. He had a Win model 70 in 300 H&H that he had chambered. The ICL Grizzly was basically a clone of the 300 Weatherby with sharp shoulders to get around the Weatherby patent.
During the early 60's getting an action that would handle the 375 H&H was an expensive thing to do and there were bunchs of Mausers and everything else that the 308 Norma would fit.

I own a 358 NM and a 35 Whelen, this new cartridge in my opinion may be the best 35 caliber magnum of them all with it's unbelted case and from my reading it should work in a standard length long action with a magnum bolt face. It should work very well for Alaska big games animals like bear; both brown, grizzly and black, moose, bison, elk and some of the more hardy mountain species like mountain goat which I heard needs to be anchored right where they stand when you shoot them.
A contact here in Alaska is going to have the reamer, gauges and dies made for me so I can have the rifle built and ammo loaded. Should be a good shooter. Thanks

I think your going to see lots of spin-offs from this new case from Ruger and Hornedy. It's just to good a case size not to.

Contacted Pacific Tool and Gauge and here is a list of new reamers based on the 375 Ruger cartridge case.
450-375 Ruger
6.5mm-375 Ruger
7mm-375 Ruger
338-375 Ruger
30-375 Ruger
416-375 Ruger
Checked out the Ammo Guide website, found it very useful and informative, also subscribed. The 35 Newton looks like a very modern cartridge considering it's age. Thanks

You wouldn't be hard done by if you were limited to Newton's cartridges for big game hunting in North America. The second centre-fire rifle I shot as kid was a 1st Model .256 Newton. What a rifle!
.30-375 Ruger = .30 Newton. ;)

Here is a weblink to a forum with additional information on the development of the new ".358 Nukalpiaq" which is based on a modified 375 Ruger case.

you know i really hate the 375 ruger!
i've spent years trying to think of a new wildcat to call my own. i thought i had it, a ultra mag shorten to the same length as the 300 wm, fatter case more gogo you should be able to match the 300 weatherby or the 7mm stw in a 30-06 action wow! then ruger comes along and steals my ideal what a bummer.

The .35/.375 Rugger would make an awesome elk/moose/big bear round. But I'd opt to just use it the way it comes.......... 3/8"-bore. No need to "dumb it down" so to speak. ;)
Add to your list of wildcats the .395 Ruger (.395/.375 Ruger) being done over on the AR website.

I to chased a wildcat of my own at one time but quickly realized just about everything had been tried at one time or another...lol. You should definately get a copy of Wildcat Cartridges : 1 and 2 Combo Edition (Paperback)
by Wolfe Publishing, there are more wildcat cartridges than I had ever dreamed of in that tome. As quickly as these companies are creating catridges that they can tie their name to, ie: 375 Ruger, 460 S&W, etc...the new brass gives wildcatters a chance to create but seldom is anything truly new created, most of the time we are just reinventing the wheel. Good luck with your project and keep us posted.
Currently I load for 22 CHeetah, 375/338, 300 Whisper, and 450 Alaskan.

451 Detonics; I too have a copy of the book Wildcat Cartridges, I wish that it could be updated to the most current cartridge developments. Then it would be totally awesome to read.
Magnumitis; What is the complete website name for the acronym AR? Never heard of a .395/375 Ruger.
In regards to the designer of the new 358 Nukalpiaq his handle is Murphy, and I think the cartridge design will be very efficient. Thanks

The 395 was conjured but by poster "RIP"
Here's just one of a bazillion different threads on the 395. Most are located on the "Big Bore" forum at AR.
