I have seen CZ-52s that have different caliber barrels....9X19...even a 22 caliber hotrod. My question is this...the 7.62X25 is a long cartridge and a high pressure cartridge. Can it handle a 9mm Largo, or a 9X23 round? Any thoughts welcome. Thanks, lost

Only know of the 9x19 and 7.62x25 for the CZ-52 pistol. The CZ-52 rifle on the other hand was orginally in 7.62x45mm then rechambered to 7.62x39mm. I had one of the 7.62x39 version in Iraq last year had it was a great shooter.

There have been a couple of articles in American Handgunner on them.
One was a few years ago, and centered on the ".223 Timbs" cartridge, which was just a 7.62x25 loaded with a .22 cal sabot (I didn't know until then that I could name a cartridge after myself just by loading a different projectile).

The other article was about 10 years ago or more (probably more), and was in the Pistolsmith column, I think. He talked about how strong the roller locking arrangement appeared to be, and how he thought it may be one of the strongest semi-autos of it's size.
The whole point of it all was that he was looking at other chamberings for it. He was thinking over re-making one into a .38 Super (or maybe it was 9x23?), and would keep us posted.
He didn't.
As I said, that was at least 10 years ago. It was also the last I saw about it.
Maybe he tried it and the project failed, or simply lost interest. This was before CZ52s were being sold by the pile at gunshows for cheap, so maybe he had too much money in it to risk it.

I have had a CZ52 for a few years, but haven't done much with it. I have read that, although strong, once the rollers get flat spots pounded into them you're sunk. I don't know what it takes to do that, though.

The rollers are easily and cheaply replaced...as a matter of fact they make hardened rollers now for the CZ-52. Quite a few places offer that stuff now...different recoil springs etc. Theres a 22 Reeder Express now that is on a CZ-52 frame....7.62X25 necked down. It offers a decent varmint opportunity from that platform. I was looking to neck up though...so to speak. Move up to 9mm, and rather than re-invent the wheel, there are some pretty potent 9mm cartridges already out there....just wondering if anyone has tried them or if they know if the platform can handle that thrust and pressure. TY for the help. Doug
