Got to make a trip to the range today, with some interesting results...........

Took: New 700 CDL Boone&Crocket 7mm-08
Browning BLR .308 win.
M1A standard
Olympic Arms AR-15
Winchester 1885 HiWall in .405win.

All shot well, recently put a Ziess 3x9x40 Conquest on the 1885, (WHICH HAS NO FACTORY SIGHTS), and at 125 yrds., it shot good 1 1/2"- 2" groups. But the amazing thing was the BLR, .308 win. just put a Leupold 1.5x5 VX3 HVY Duplex on it, this gun shot a 5/8" 3 shot group at 125 yrds., and the dang hvy duplex covers the whole taget at that range ! My new 700 CDL with a Ziess 3.5x10x50 Conquest couldn't come close to that performance........

Are you shooting handloads or factory ammo? I recently bought a Rem 700 LVSF and restocked it with a Boyds thumbhole stock. It sports a 4.5-14 X 44mm Zeiss Conquest (nice scope). I shoot my handloads with 40 grain Sierra BlitzKing or Nosler BT. It's a one-holer at 100 yards and not too much spread at 200, the local crow population is taking a beating.

I'm surprised your 1885 doesn't have iron sights. Does the scope throw the balance off? I scoped my Ruger #1V 25-06 (the varmint model does not have iron sights on the bull barrel) with a 50mm Redfield 2-10 with the wide view finder. That's a nice compliment to that gun and the balance is still good. Kind of heavy but real accurate with my handloads.

I was shooting 140 gr. ballistic tips, over IMR 4350, from the 7mm-08, brand new gun, first time shooting her, grouped OK I guess, about 1 1/2" to 1 3/4" at 125 yds., would have liked to see better. The gun has the new style trigger, and no doubt needs to be lightened up, I think that will make a big difference by itself. As far as the 1885, shot great with the 3x9x40 Ziess, but have since removed the scope and added a Leupold 2.5x8x36 matte, and that seems to balance out the gun alot better, the gun over all is very accurate, kicks like ****, but throws a rather large projectile,( 300 gr. FP at 2200-2300 fps. ). The .45-70 has iron sights from the factory, but the.405 win. comes with a clean heavy octagon barrel, however the tang is drilled and tapped for tang sights. Apparently they use the same frame for both guns, because my gun doesn't have any front sight.

Lucky, those BLRs are an accurate gun. When I picked mine up about 2 years ago, the first time out with Remington Core Lokts I shot a 3 shot one hole group. The group's inside another group with the same powder/charge with the Hornady 200 grn. I think I measured it at about 1/4" CTC @ 100 yards.

Your right about that, great shootin' there M1, I really love this little gun, am totally amazed at its accuracy too. I'm very happy now that I know it groups like that with 165 grainers, (Bal-tips), and I will now see if she can make the Accubonds (my huntign round),duplicate this accuracy. This will be my early season treestand gun for whitetails.
