I bought this in the spring, have not had time to put up until yesterday. It is 12x20 cabalas wall tent, should be just the right size for the five of us.

How difficult was it to set up.

Looks great.

That is a really nice tent. The wood stove should help with the chill factor. I used to have a large tent that all of us would stay in on elk hunts. But I got tired of being the one to have to store and haul all that stuff. Now I have a tent for me and my son in law. The rest of the bums can fend for themselves. Now if my snoring bothers you, pitch your tent somewhere else.:)

Nice tent. My neighbor has a tent similiar to that from Cabela's. Unfortunately he and I hunt in different parts of the state.

It was real easy one man set up, took me about 1 hour, give or take. the d@mn thing is heavy, you back the truck up to where you ant it to go, roll it out and set it up, you ain't going pack this sucker very far!

Nice tent Black tail. I see less and less of these being used out here in Idaho. Most folks now use pull campers.

Some of our elk hunting places are becoming so crowded that they have brought in Porta-potties to service the crowds.

Our elk populations seem to be dropping and any bugling is covered by the noise of four wheelers on every road. Sad day it is.

I really like the floor with the cut out for the stove. Are you coming out west this year or staying on homeground? Good luck this fall.

That is a nice looking tent. We've hunted out of a wall tent the last 3 years that we ordered from a great company in Colorado. I like the floor in yours, we didn't get one with ours, but what we did was had a heavy tarp we roll down for wetness protection and then roll an indoor/outdoor carpet on top of that and that's really nice. Two things I'd like to add to what I've experienced, one, those stoves like you have are nice but I'm guessing to keep it going, you'll have to put wood in it at least once an hour. We were fortunate that my dad had an old pot belly he pickeup up in the 50s that's about 4' tall. When he suggested it, I planned on getting the one like yours but I'm glad we use the pot belly, it's very managable with two people and we don't have to load it as often. But I still have to get up probably 2x during the night to load it. Second, is there a rain fly that goes with that? If not, I'd recommend seeing if you can get one. Good luck and glad to see others using these tents. If only those using campers knew what they were missing :D

Blacktail, that is a beauty of a tent! Nothing better than a wall tent with wood stove for hunting camp. They beat the campers by a long shot as you can actually dry things out in them. I'd recommend a non-flammable mat in front of that stove though so you don't get poppers blowing out the door onto that nice floor. I'd also recommend - if you haven't done so already - lighting a fire in that stove and get a good burn going, outside the tent, to 'burn off' all the stink. And don't worry about having to get up multiple times in the night to stoke it, just put your cot fairly close to it, and the guys farther away will get cold the quickest and wake up first, and they'll stoke it. :D

You guys must be pretty big, because we could get about 9 people in a tent that size. :p We usually set up a 14x16 for a sleep tent and have wedged 7 in that, but we also have a 16x20 that we set up as the cook/BS tent so we don't have all the kitchen gear in the sleep tent.

M1Garand, there's an easy way to avoid having to get up to stoke the stove too many times (in addition to the above)....just stay up later, and get up early. ;)

None of our tents have floors in them, and like you we put down tarps, then put down carpet scraps on top of that. Easy on the footsies in the middle of the night. We keep pretty comfy, even at 10 - 15F or so.

I have not had a chance to "season" or "cure" the paint yet. This was just a dry run. I'm taking a trip to hunt the Tillamook burn area here in Oregon with a buddy of mine from work. Next year it is a Muley trip to Eastern Oregon (desolation unit). There will be 11 of us on that trip, but only the wife and the tree boys in my tent. I'd like to add a 12x12 for a "mess tent"
The best part about the tent Two poles and plenty of room for a Keg!! :D

You guys are "spoiled rotten"!!! :D My latest tent is a 4.5 pound Bibler tent that I haul around on my back, replacing my 6 pound Sierra Designs tent that I also hauled around on my back! Each say they sleep 3, but only sleep 2. Sleep one really comfortably with gear...

Nights of a sheep hunter aren't as comfy as you elk hunters, apparently

Shawn not a bad idea..:) actually I could probably let it go out, as we all have sleeping bags rated pretty low and just zip up in them...normally I lay on top with a poncho liner...but it is nice having it warm when we get up.

Nice tent. It's Palatial.

Alyeska, you know you can tell tell difference between a sheep hunter and an elk hunter by the clothing he wears?

Just compare the waistband sizes. ;) :p :D

Know how to tell the difference between an Alaskan hunter and a hunter anywhere in the lower 48?

Hat size. ;)

We're headed out for moose this week and I'm looking at that wall tent and thinking of my two man tent. Glad it's got doors on both sides and vestibules on both sides but compared to yours Blacktail, it's really small. At least it's really light. :(

My tent is not equipped for a wood stove so we use an Honda 2000i super quiet generator and a ceramic heater. The heater keeps it about 45 degrees in the tent (0 to 10 degrees outside) and the generator burns about 1.5 gallons of gas during the night. The Honda generator is so quiet, you cannot hear it in the tent. It doesn't smell as good as a wood heater but we stay warm

Jodum-

I was just looking at purchasing a Honda gen. for football tailgates this fall. Will the 2000i run a TV? It sounds as though you are satisfied w/ yours. Think there a bit pricey though.

Bulldawg, the Honda 2000i is the one of the best generators on the market. I produces 1600 watts steady and 2000 watts surge. During power outages, I can run several lamps, tv and refrigerator and freezer all at once. You can hook two 2000i together and get 4000 watts. The best thing about the Honda 2000i is that it only weighs 48 pounds and produces only 56 db noise when running. You can walk 20 ft from it and you cannot hear it running. Depending on the load it is pulling, it will run up to 8 hrs on one gallon of gas. I have had a number of generators but I have never used one as much as I have the Honda 2000i. Check at Mayberrys.com for some of the best prices and free shipping.

I think there's a local dealer. I am planning on going by there in the next week and demoing one. You've peeked my curiosity and I gotta go 'hear' one for myself to see how quit it is. Sounds perfect for camping when you don't want to run a noisy generator when noise is the thing you went into the woods to get away from in the first place

They are nice....ours is like a mini portable cabin. Much more comfortable than the pop up camper we used to use.
