Has anyone held one of these yet? I think it may be my cure for the blues when my son gets home and claims his HK 45 Compact I have been carrying.

Second hand information from a good friend Chief. He walked in to the local store with the intention to buy. He walked out empty handed. I can't recall his critique?
I would be glad to ask him next time we have contact. You will likely get other replies here though.

Which one? PT145? PT745? 24/7 Compact?

KI, I don't know. It is new in the .45 caliber. I think it has been out a while in the .40 S&W. From the web site it seems to have all the features of the HK Compact #1 varient that my son has. I am taking care of it while he fights the hojjis. I have grown to love it but the taurus is more my price range.
My buddy just got a 1911. Check it out. I may find a pic of the HK too.

Well, if it has the same features, that would lead me to think you're talking about either the PT945 (8+1 capacity, all metal, DA/SA with hammer, based on a beretta design) or the PT845 (12+1 capacity, polymer frame, DA/SA with hammer, not yet released AFAIK). Neither of which I'd really call a compact.
The standard 24/7 (polymer framed, striker fired, 12+1 capacity) is compactish, but I'm unaware of Taurus having made the 24/7 Compact in .45 yet.
The PT145 (polymer framed, striker fired, 10+1 capacity) is a compact, but I think they've had it in .45 for a while now.
the PT745 (polymer framed, striker fired, 6+1 capacity) is a single-stack version of the PT145. It's newish.

I think this is the one I was seeing. TAURUS PT24/7-PRO .45 ACP PISTOL IN BLUE STEEL "COMPACT" I don't think it is out yet. 24/7-45BC-12.
KI, you sure know your taurus handguns. What is your opinion.

I think they're very good handguns for the price. I think their reputation as junk guns is based solely on their earlier days, and that these days, the guns are just about on par with Glocks and such.
The only problems I've ever had with Taurus weren't quality issues, they were issues with decisions made by the company. Things like dropping the PT957, or how they didn't seem to ever make any 15-round magazines for the PT938 that were to be sold separately from the guns.
