Looking for help with a MAJOR Bobcat problem.
I am looking for some ideas on a good "BAIT" for a large Bobcat trap. It is the "live" catch type trap.
Also, anyone have any experience with Calls. I am looking for some suggestions on types and brands of calls that work for Bobcats.
I live in central Texas---near Austin.
THANKS

First off I'd check your trapping regulations to make sure your legal. I've never trapped bobcat, but have called a bunch in while coyote hunting. I use several different mouth calls and all seem to work.
Only difference I've found in calling bobcats is they usually take longer to come to a call than coyotes. If I know a bobcat is in the area I'll call for 30 to 45 minutes instead of the 15 to 20 I use on a coyote set.
I've got a friend that uses an electronic call and he has good success with it, but I've never used one.
I emagine that any meat bait would work. probably a little ripe would carry the scent further.
You might check over at the predator Master's forum they have lots of bobcat hunters over there.

Fun but hard to call. How close to Austin? They do come in quietly; had one about jump on me last fall.
I don't think it really matters what type of call. The ones I've seen came in when I was calling coyotes.
Be glad to help you with calling. Don't know the trapping regulations but you may need a permit to trap furbearers, ask the TPWD. I'm sure a phone call can resolve this quickly. They can be shot at any time, FYI.
Let me know if I can help....
