Many years ago I got my first auto loader shotgun. It was a Rem. Model 1100. What a sweet gun. Later in life I got a Rem 700 BDL in 30.06. Still later I picked up a 700 BDL in .270. Next came a Rem Model 4 in 270. Soon after I got an 870 for some duck shooting. So far my Model 1100 has been stolen, still got the 870. Sold both 700's and the Model 4 and just landed on the rifle I've looked at but just would not make the buy. I got an SPR 18N in 308. by Rem. You just got to love a single shot rifle and the 308 is all that I need in South Alabama looking for hogs on the rivers. The iron sights add a little thrill to the hunt for me. Plus, the only time I've ever got more than one round down range while shooting at hogs is while using my 870 with 00 buck(has 9 rounds in one) Anyone know much about this rifle?

Man, that was a little shaky at first. The 2nd one was a little better to read. Thanks for the help. I'll be on the range in the AM with the iron sights. Most likely going to scope it. Old eyes the way they are, you know. Thanks for the sites and info.

Unless I'm using a peep sight, the days of using iron sights are long gone for me, it's glass or a peep for me.

Wow, just got back from the range. Shoots great. Recoil so-so. May change the rocoil pad. One thing for sure; iron sights are not reccomended when using bi-focals. Guess I'll need some optics. All in all I'm pleased with the rifle. Just got to top it off with some glass. Based on that other site may just go ahead and refinish the wood. I do like darker stains any way.

Got some glass on it and went to the range today. Started at 100 yards with a "zero" target about 2 feet square with 5 smaller targets within that 2 foot square. Shot 8 times and never hit the target. Could not even see my hits on the back board. Pulled back to the pistol range and at 20 yards I was shooting 12 to 14 inchs high. Some great bore sight there. Did the adjustments and moved back to the rifle side at 100 yards. Fired one shot from the vise, moved my cross hairs to the impact point and WHAM, rifle hits where its aimed. Shot a total of 40 rounds with it and other than the sore shoulder was completely satisfied with the rifle. The only bad point is when removing the empty shell to reload the scope hangs a little too far over the chamber. Takes a little practice to get it down smooth. Still, all in all I've got what I want from a rifle. As my Grand Son says"Cool Beans"

backbay, are hogs plentiful down there?
We don't have any here in the central part of the state, but I'd love to hunt them. thanks Glenn

Check out the Weaver v3 1-3x20 scope. http://www.weaveroptics.com/pg6_7/pg6_7.html
Should do nicely on that rifle.

Plenty of hogs in the Delta. Gotta watch the size of the island you are shooting on. Has to be 40 acres or better. Plus, you can only hunt with the size shoot used for whatever game is in season. ie, quail season - use smooth bore with shot-- so you have to use bird shot on hogs. Not too smart. I have used a 22 auto and as long as you stay in your boat you'll be fine. Some of then take some killing and the longer you take the mad'er they get. They can run a lot faster in the mud flats than I can too. Hogs can made a grown man look like a fool. You can hunt from a boat as long as its not in motion. Bring a large hook on a long rope. Sometimes its best to throw that hook at a dead hog and drag him to the boat rather than trying to walk across a mud flat. 80 pound hogs that have been split wrap 3/4 of the way around a large Weber grill. Good eating there, my friend. JW, going to look at that scope. Thanks for the info.
