I have a 590A1 bought NIB. Often when working the slide back toward the receiver there is a lot of resistance. Not quite binding, but requires extra force. It happens intermittently, and independent of whether the hammers have already been cocked. If I pull the slide back hard and fast it will always cycle, but it takes a lot more effort and is not what I'd call smooth. My 500A feels like silk in comparison. I'm trying to avoid shipping the gun to Mossberg for warranty inspection/repair if possible. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Take your trigger group out, make sure that the grooves that the action bars sit in is clean (the bars that connect the forearm to the bolt), sometimes these come with shipping grease, lightly oil the action bars and see if it helps. You can always polish the bars too, but, where it's a new gun I don't know if you want to mess with that.

I've got the Mossberg 590 (blued) and the M590A1 (parkerized) and both work equally well. Maybe the parkerized finish is creating more friction in some moving parts than the blued parts in the 590? Possible that continued cycling will break the gun in, resulting in a smoother cycling.
