Skeet target cross from left and right. Trap target are going away at different angles. Hope this helps. All the best...

A skeet field is a semi-circle, a house at each corner, stations on the arc and in the center. Skeet is shot with 12, 20, 28 and 410 gauge shotguns. Ranges are short and chokes are open. As the shooter progresses around the field, angles of the shots change.

Trap fields are set up behind the trap house, and shooting is done from 16 to 27 yards behind the house. Nobody in his right mind uses any gauge except 12. Chokes are modified to full, depending on the range.

Skeet shooters wear fine tweed, smoke pipes, and shoot Purdys and Holland and Hollands.

Trap shooters wear coveralls, chew Red Man, and shoot beat up Remingtons with stump loads.

At least this is how it was explained to me by a winner of the Grand....lol.

Hate Tweed, and don't smoke. wear Levi's and Polo shirt. Shoot Winchester Model 12 for 12 & 20 Ga. Beretta O/U in 28 Ga. and ,410.

Same clothing choice for trap. Don't Chew. Use a Model 12 Winchester W/Full choke. I must be in the wrong games.

Don't look at me...my favorite skeet gun is my Winchester SXS in 16ga (I just shoot for fun these days) and the last competition I won was using a muzzle loading 12 ga for the State Muzzle Loading Skeet Championship a few years back...just reporting what I was told. I haven't shoot the Grand since Purdue set the record there some years back.

No offense taken, I haden't heard that one before and I thought I might have to change my habits so I would fit in. :D I have a nice Beretta S58E 12 Ga. with all the sub barrels. but I still prefer the old Pre War Model 12's, They just naturely point where I want them to. Used to play around and shoot doubles with one round. {Not legal in competition but good practice.} Can get back on target quicker with the pump than with an Auto loader or a double.
When I first tried Skeet, the British fellas I was shooting with thought I wouldn't do any good, and laughed at the old Model 12's untill I out shot a couple of them. Got invited to quite a few shoots after that.

I had a nice Browning four barrel set for skeet but sold it years ago. I shoot several shotguns these days, as I said my Winchester 16 being my favorite but I also shoot a 20ga White Onyx, a 12 ga Valmet O/U, a custom 1100, and a Benelli 121. I load light these days as well, can't remember the last time I shot anything heavier in the 12 and 16 than 7/8oz loads.
