John and Joe had been friends all their lives. The problem was that no matter what Joe accomplished, John was never impressed. He had that "been there, done that" attitude that just drove Joe nuts!

One day, Joe was out duck hunting in a rural area with a local farmer who brought along the farm mongrel which he claimed was the best darn duck retriever ever!

Sure enough, when Joe fired at the incoming mallards one dropped out in the pond he was hunting and, true to his promise, the dog ran to pond edge, as if to dive in and retrieve the downed bird. However, when it got to the edge of the pond it stopped, sniffed the water and stepped out ONTO the water. It walked across the water, picked up the duck, returned and dropped the duck at Joe's feet, all without wetting anything other than the bottom of its own feet!

"That's amazing!" Joe said. The farmer just shrugged and said the dog had aways been able to do that.

Not put off, Joe immediately bought the mutt there and then, thinking he finally had something that John would have to acknowledge.

The next weekend Joe took John duck hunting to show off his new dog. John dropped the first bird and the dog ran to the edge of the water, stopped, sniffed and proceeded to repeat its miraculous ability to walk on water to retrieve ducks. It dutifully returned and dropped the duck at John's feet but he made no comment. This went on all day long.

Finally, on the drive home Joe couldn't take it anymore. "Well, didn't you notice anything unusual about my new dog!"

John sighed, and said, "I didn't want to say anything because you seemed so darned excited about this new dog but I did notice one strange thing about that critter..."

"WELL? WHAT IS IT!", Joe yelled, unable to contain his excitement.

John held up his hand and said, "Sorry Joe but.... your new dog can't swim."
