....I spent almost 2 hours in a Gander Mountain and didn't buy a single thing! No gun, no reloading equipment, no bullets, no hunting gear, not even a Handloader Magazine.....I think I need help....or Gander Mountain needs to lower their prices.

Have the same condition...but in my case, have a name for it.

Too poor (although usually pronounced "2po").

Have to agree with that statement. Put a picture of a dollar in my wallet, hoping some real money would get jealous and join it.

A lot of the guns are taking on a new look.....Savage had a few offerings with laminated thumbhole stocks and some of the Ruger 10-22's had the yellow, red, and fancy cut out stocks....definately deviating from the norm. The marketing guys are making some good moves, especially with the looks of the youth guns. You can tell they're gearing up for hunting season, most of the guns on the rack were chambered in 30-06 or 270 Winchester. Slim pickings for non-conventional cartridges.

The most intriguing gun I saw today was a Winchester High Wall in 325 WSM! In general I'm not a fan of the WSM stuff but this one just seems to make sense to me. I got to see 338 Federal factory ammo for the first time. I'm not sure that I'd go that route now that I've seen the cartridge. It looked like too much bullet for the case. IMO - an 8mm bullet would have been a better choice.

I stopped at Cabelas twice on vacation. The first store in Mitchell S.D. I bought nothing. I made up for it in the next store in Sidney N.E. Just keep shopping I'm sure you will get the hang of it.Q

We don't have a Cabelas anywhere within reasonable distance, but I do get their catalog. The one time I wanted something bad enough to pay their ridiculous prices, they jerked me around on availability and shipping so bad, I told 'em to keep it. I've never even opened another catalog.

I'm lucky enough to have a Cabela's about an hour away, and I find their prices to be right on par with everyone else around here. A lot of times even less. And as for service, most of the local gun shops could take a lesson or two from the folks at Cabela's...

Can't say that I've seen Cabela's too far out of line on their prices, especially when you look at the quality of it

Got a Cabela's about an hour away and a Bass Pro Shop within 1/2 hour. Haven't been to the Cabela's yet, but can verify the Bass Pro Shop has fairly high prices on their merchandise.

Only been to Cabelas once ... that was in Buda, just south of Austin, TX. Cabelas is not cheap, but they do carry quality and a selection that is just fantastic. That is where I purchased my pistol grip BLR in 358W. They had a rather large and diverse selection of used guns. Hoping that Cabelas will target the Houston area soon.

I've been to several Gander Mountains, two in the Houston area and others while on the road ... stopped at one in Texarkana a few days back. Gander Mountain is usually fairly consistent in what they carry from one location to the next. Their prices are certainly higher than a Walmart or Academy Sports, but a better selection. Quality of items is high, but unless I see something targeted that I want, I usually pass. Their reloading selection is only fair with a high prejudice towards RCBS and only vanilla as far as cartridge components are concerned. Powder selection is spotty at best. While they don't carry every cartridge out there for ammo, they do have a good selection and will usually get some of the less mainstream loads on limited runs (like 358W or 35 Whelen). I recently priced a Ruger M77 MK II in Left-Hand Stainless-Laminate 30-06 for Gander Mountain to order ... quoted me $670 pre-tax, I ended up getting it ordered for $580 pretax from Tomball Pawn. No contest.

I have been to two Bass Pro shops ... like night and day as far as selection. The Katy, TX location (west of Houston off I-10) has a fantastic selection and a respectable reloading area. Prices are very high, although their powder prices are pretty much inline with what I see everywhere. Last month I was at the Shreveport, LA location .... if you're a muzzleloader, well great but just forget it for metallic cartridge reloading and oh yeah, their prices are high. Ammo isle was only plain vanilla as well.

I find that except for powder, I purchase most of my reloading supplies online.

I've dried up buying anything here lately because of high prices and redicolus shipping charges!
I'd like to be buying reloading supplies from Midway as I type this but as I said the shipping is just to much of a rippoff.

Have a Cabellas, Gander Mountain, Scheels and Sportsman Warehouse all within a half hour. Gander no longer carries any reloading supplies so my interest there is limited. However, when I did find something that I knew I could find at another store cheaper, they did match the price.

However, for the most part, all the sports places prices are higher than I am willing to pay. I shop for the absolute lowest prices on reloading supplies and will buy them, even if they are higher than I would like, primarily because that is an addiction and not a want ;)
