STG 2000 C Forearm Removal

If you follow the instructions that come with the rifle, you’ll pull on the locking pin/forward sling attaching point until you hurt yourself and it still won’t come out.

Push the steel cap at the front of the forearm back towards the butt of the rifle- it’s held in place by springs. When the cap is far enough back, the locking pin will virtually fall out. Move the locking pin all the way to the left. The locking pin is captive and won’t come free. Now, move the cap as far forward as it will go against the front sight tower. The front of the two halves of the forearm will pivot away from the barrel and can be pulled forward off the rifle.

Once you get the forearm off, it’s easy to see how the locking pin holds against the sight tower. You can also get at the springs inside the cap to clean them. The cap on my rifle wouldn’t come back far enough to clear the pin. I think there was a bit of plastic from the forearm molding holding it forward. A few taps with a plastic mallet drove the cap back until I could get the locking pin out.

The rifle is nice and light. I’m looking forward to getting it to the range and giving it a workout.
