Hello guys , youv`e probably talked about this one already a million times , but i have to ask it anyway. I ran into a heck oo a deal on a 7rum. I just could`nt pass it up. Needed a cannon in my arsonel. Anybody know much about this round? The ballistics are impressive , but i don`t have much loading data on it. Seems like the ultimate long range machine. But i don`t know anyone who has one. Would i be better off with a 7mm rem mag? Any input is appreciated. Thanks

chuckinator,
have you bought the 7mm RUM yet? What kind of information are you looking for?

I have one in a Rem 700 BDL that consistently groups 3/4" - 1" with 160 grain Noslers. I haven't had any luck with the lighter stuff.
Calling it a cannon is an accurate description. I put a KDF muzzle brake on mine to help control the flip and it helped dramatically. I didn't lose or gain any FPS and accuracy marginally improved with the brake.
Hodgdons annual and Swift both have published loads for the 7mmRUM

No expierance with any of the RUM's,but surely you could start with the hottest of 7mm Rem. Mag loads and work up from there.---pruhdlr

I have already purchased the rifle , and just scoped it today . I checked out the hogdon`s manual and it`s in there , thanks. I bought a pound of retumbo and a pound of r25. I plan on trying 162 gr hornady btsp bullets. Anyone else try these powders ? Don`t have time yet to shoot it. I`m lucky i was able to buy it , i got married almost a year ago , and the wife say`s i already have enough guns.

Good slow powders for this big magnum. 162gr BTSPs should be perfect on deer for these extreme velocities. I think you'll be pleased with your purchase.

Hodgdon has a fair amount of 7mm RUM data online. Note that the starting loads are quite a bit higher than 7mm Rem. Mag. max loads. Underloading that breast is not wise.
