Forgive me if this is an imposable question to answer . I do not know if the steel rams set at 200 meters on a silhouette range are a standard size and weight ?

What I would like to know is , does off the shelf 148 - 158 grain SWC .357 Mag ammo have enough power to knock down the 200 meter ram ? 16" barrel lever gun ? 20" ?

Thanks ,
God bless

I'd go with the 158gr for off the shelf. Most shilhouette shooters use 180-200gr. bullets.
From what I've seen they are a little long for 94/92 actions!

Sounds like a 200m pistol range if the rams are at 200m.They are the same size as a 500m rifle silhouette range rams.I use 200gn hardcast lead gas checked projectiles out of my 586 S&W pistol. They are still marginal at 200m.the freedom arms pistols allow a bit more space in the cylinder and more powder.I dont know for sure but i dont think a 200gn will fit in a levergun?180gn would probably fit.

In our lineup of bullets for the .357, you'll find two that are tailor made for your purposes.

One, is the .38/.357-185g FNGC, when loaded with 16.0 grains of H110/WSP Primer and either Starline or Winchester brass, this is one hard hitting load that will topple rams. Out of a 20" carbine you can count on about 1865 fps at the muzzle with this combination.

The other is our .38/.357-200g FNGC bullet. It too has the necessary energy to reliably topple rams when fired out of a .357 carbine. Best performance with this bullet is obtained using Lil'gun.

Too, you will find these bullets have nose to crimp lengths such that they feed like butter in most all .357 caliber lever-action carbines and rifles.

If you are not a handloader, here's an article that you'll find very helpful.

God bless,

I will most likely stay with the lever guns I have . I was mostly thinking about .357 for reduced recoil , compared to the .44 & .45 caliber rifles I presently have . And a .357 would be somewhat cheaper to shoot .

Thanks ,
