Welcome to the forum TriggerHead. Rules are simple, be nice and join in.

Here's where you can win a new Remington 700 SPS and where you can look at all the calibers offered in this model Remington.

Here's Remingtons list of all the calibers and specs on the SPS.

I've hunted with various Remington 700's for quite a few years and am very pleased with the rifles I have. I shoot Remington 700's in 243, 280 Remington, 308 Winchester and 8mm Remington Mag. All do a fine job for the game I pursue.

I have one with the stainless barrel in .30-06. It is a decent rifle but I don't think it shoots as well as the BDL because the stock they put on there isn't worth a nickel. If you aren't a handloader you should still be able to find some factory ammo that it will shoot around an inch or so. Mine does not have the new trigger on it but I would try the trigger and if it needed work I would have it adjusted before I put a single bullet through the barrel. The R-3 recoil pad is very nice. I am not very recoil sensitive anyway but I can literally shoot my 06 all day long.

A good choice if, for no other reason, there are about a zillion accessories available and gunsmiths with Remington experience if you ever want to alter or embellish it.

I just bought one (stainless) for my son in 30-06. Got the new trigger which is pretty good. Seems like a very nice hunting rifle. Light, recoil pad is effective and shoots 1.5-2" groups at 100 with whatever factory load i tried.

Good guns, and can be had in just about every standard cartridge out there. Anything from 243 or bigger for deer and 280 Rem or bigger for elk/deer combo, and you should be good.

I think they're a great rifle, and good value. I don't have one, but a friend has one that I've shot many a varmint with - matte black finish - in 243 Win. Very accurate, and slick action. I've been considering a bigger varmint rifle than my 17 Rem, and smaller than the 25-06, and the SPS may be it for me.
