Well, the .357 Maximum slipped through my fingers, by about 1.5 hours...
What does a 30-30 in a 14" bbl kick and shoot like? How much worse than a .44?
How much drop does it have. Is there a place where I can look at the ballistic tables on it?

stinky,
I've shot a T/C Contender Super 14" in 30-30 for years and have always found it to be superble accurate...
Shooting the better "spitzer" bullets in handloads, you can safely push 150 gr. bullets to just over 2,300 fps. and the 125 and 130 gr. bullets to between 2,400 and 2,500 fps...
In a 14" Contender pistol, the 30-30 performs very well out to an easy 300 yards...
This is what a drop table would look like for a 150 gr. spitzer bullet at 2,300 fps. -
100 yds: 3" high
200 yds: 0.0"
300 yds: 11.5"

That looks like it is real close to a rifle. I'm assuming, 4" or so at 250.
How comfortable was it to shoot?

stinky,
actually it's about 5 1/2" at 250 yards...
This is the load that I'm shooting -
CASE: W-W 30-30 Winchester
PRIMER: CCI-200
POWDER: H-4895 / 34.0 gr.
BULLET: Nosler 150 gr. Solid Base
VELOCITY: 2,300 fps.
ACCURACY: 5-shots at 100 yards from a bench average 3/4 inch
COMMENTS: I have been shooting this gun and load since the late 1980's and have killed more than my share of deer and coyotes as well as crows, armadillos and fox...
Recoil is comfortable with this load out of my Super 14" Contender. I have a Pachmayr forend and Pachmayr Presentation Grip on this gun and that helps make it fun to shoot....

What are the ballistics like for the 30-30 Ackley Improved?

kudu40,
from a 14" Contender pistol barrel or a 14" Lone Eagle pistol barrel, I can "safely" push a 150 gr. bullet to 2,400 fps....
In an N.E.F. with a 16 1/4" barrel, also chambered in 30-30 Ackley Improved, I can safely get 2,500 fps. with a 150 gr. bullet and 2,700 fps. from the full length 22" barrel with the same weight bullet...

I had a Super 14 .30-30 Ackley Improved a few years back. It was an older 1 in 14" Twist .30 Herrett Contender Barrel that I had SSK Industries rechamber to .30-30 Ackley Improved for me.
With 150gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips loaded with IMR-3031 Powder I obtained velocities very similar to what Assassin obtained, ie 2437 FPS from the 14" Barrel. With 125gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips with either IMR or Hodgdon 4198 I was able to obtained over 2600 FPS from the 14" Handgun.
In a moment of weakness I sold my .30-30 AI Contender, but never fear as right before Christmas I ordered a new 14" Stainless-Steel T/C Custom Shop .30-30 AI Contender Barrel. Hopefully it will be here next month so I can start getting brass fireformed and start working on finding the load this new barrel will prefer.
I have shot a couple Whitetails with the .30-30 AI using the 125gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip, as did my youngest daughter. All were one shot kills, with most dropping in their tracks.
I really like the .30-30 AI in a Contender Handgun, and feel that it offers about the best performance in a .30 Caliber Contender Handgun, all things considered.
