Greetings! In 1992 I bought some 280 grain GC .44 bullets from Marshall. He was very helpful and the bullets (with his suggested load of H110) were just what I was looking for for bear protection on my horsepacking trips into Montana's Bob Marshall Wilderness. I still have some of these. They are stored in my unheated shop -- temps from 90 to 0 degrees or so. In this time has anything happened to the tempering (or whatever) of the bullet? Are they still as dependable as they were 15 years ago?
Thanks in advance for your replies!

I have bullets that were cast back in the '60s,and have faith that they are just fine. Those that wre lubricated will need to have the lube checked for dtying out and becoming loose in the grooves. They will be relubed.
Most common bullets are actually ageless.

Lead pretty much only corrodes in the presence of electricity, the lube will dry out though.
The copper gas check will corrode in the presence of Oxygen so you should check those, but other than that, they should be fine. I shoot too much to have anything that old... :D

Larry,
Our bullets are heat-treated to a BHN 21, and over the course of about 18 months they will age soften to BHN 21, that's a loss of only one Brinnel hardness point. After stabilizing at BHN 21, they will stay at that hardness indefinitely, so long as they are not exposed to termperatures in excess of 210 degrees F.
Rest assured, that the performance you enjoyed fifteen years ago will be the same performance you obtain with them this season!
Thanks for the question, and hey, let us know how those decade and a half old bullets perform for you in the game fields this fall!
God bless,

Thanks for your replies. The lube looks like new on these old timers. I'll be packing a new (to me) 629 this fall as my old one got stolen. It took a good bit of time to find one like I had. Marshall's bullets really increased the enjoyment (and my confidence) in my old 44 and I'm looking forward to sighting in the "new" one with them.
