Just wondering what powder everyone prefers in thier 22-250.

I have access to the hodgdon extruded powders (ADI powder names) Varget (AR2208) and Benchmark (Benchmark 2) but cant seem to decide which might be more suitable.

The Benchmark seems slightly lower pressures with a 55gr projectile but not by much yet not as much goes into each case in terms of max loads. Im of the thinking that a fuller case would be better so am leaning towards the Varget (2208)

Is one a stick shaped and the other more round or is the Varget slightly slower burning? What are average groups like with each one at each end of the powder charge scale?

Im going to be using remington brass, cci large rifle primers and 55gr sierra blitzkings. Working up at minimum loads first then tweaking them for accuracy.

Cheers
Brad

H380 is one of the best for a 22-250 I use that or Varget, depending on twist 55 grain bullets may not be the most accurate, you never know until you try.

Hodgdon named the H380 powder specifically for the 22-250. He found that 38.0 gr of the powder was the best load for the cartridge. That pretty well speaks volumes.

Varget works well for me.

Thanks, we dont have access to H380- since ADI sends their powder to hodgdons maybe there should be a return of different powders???- but the closest to it is varget. Here, our Benchmark 2 or the US Benchmark is considered "the" powder for the 22-250. I guess I might start with varget (2208) and see how that goes

The most accurate load i've ever tried in my Ruger #1 was RL15 with 50 grain Nosler BT's.

The powder meters pretty well and is throws very consistent velocities in my rifle.

I use H322 with 40 grain pills to keep recoil to minimum, at about 3500 fps. Benchmark nearly the same.
