Have any of you good folks had to pass up buying a gun that later upon reflection just tore you up with remorse? It has happened to me. Some years ago when money was tight, I had to pass up a lovely German commercial '98 Mauser sporter in 8mm with double set triggers because I did not have $75.00. I also did not buy a mint U.S. Johnson Automatic Rifle in .30-06 from WWII since $50 was beyond me. Finally, I missed out on a broomhandle Mauser pistol when I could not come up with $24.95 plus shipping. What got away from you good folks? All the best...

Sometimes I have had them, but needed cash, they had to go. At those prices Gil it must have been a long time ago. A Johnson for $50.00? That is crazy. Me, A Lungman, MG42($850.00), 1897 shotgun, a Hakim, an Austrian 8mm semi auto, can't remember the model.
I still see rifles I would love to buy, and sometimes get in trouble w/ the wife for buying one. But, I guess I am very fortunate. I have my toys, my family, and I am here.
I am going to look at a Husqvarna .22lr tonight, I'll be in trouble, but life has a way of working out. Jim

The guy selling the Johnson for $50.00 also had a G-43 for $40.00 and an M1 Garand for $60.00. Those were the days and they were very big dollars. All the best...

At least as sad are the ones owned and let go. The "Oh,to have it back again ! " stories we all have would fill volumes. Alas.

I collect 22 Hornet rifles and pistols. Early when I first started collecting went to a gun show and there were two very rare and very good hornets for sale. A Savage/Stevens Walnut Hill single shot and a Griffin and Howe 1922 Springfield conversion were both for sale at the same show. Being poor as the perverbial church mouse I had to pass on them. What really hurt was the next several gun shows I attended they were both offered for sale--two different dealers. When I finally scrapped the money together they had both been sold. Another was a Walther KKJ in 22 Hornet that slipped through my fingers. Early on in my collecting life I made a promise to myself never to let a firearm go--something I adhere to today. When I'm six feet under they may get sold but not before.

A mint '98 Krag that i purchased with an unopened box of military ammo for $45 back in '70. Got in a marital "tight" and sold it. As they say, that was then, this is now.

Gil, To be honest I can't cry. I have done very well and paid for part of my house w/ some of what I had. If I need a new car, I could sell some and do it. If I had not sold them I would not be the position I am now. They would have tripled in value, bit so would have the house. I'm glad to have taken the hit and sold them. Jim
