Hey guys,
What are the advantages or disadvantages of the hex receiver on a Mosin Nagant M91/30? I'm looking at picking 1 up once I get my C & R. There is a $10 difference. I figured the more expensive (the hex) would be the better item but I know that you guys will set me straight. It's only $79 compared to the non hex @ $69.
Thanks,
Greg

The hex reciever is an earlier production one, dating from the Czarist or Imperial times. The Bolshiveks changed to a round reciever to make production cheaper and faster. No difference in proformance.

A hex is, as stated an earlier receiver. Far fewer around. They could be U.S., French, or Russian made. For $10.00 I would get a Hex. Jim

Jim,
Did you ever scope your K31 and how did you do it? If you did where did you get the mount and what scope do you have on it.
Thanks,
Greg

Not Jim, but I scoped my K-31 by installing a no-gunsmithing B-Square mount in the rear sight base and put a Burris 2x7 Signature Posi-lock pistol scope on it. Works like a charm!

Don't mean to hijack the thread.

I did, but found the irons so accurate I don't use it. Aim has it, a St. Marie. http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/Mounts.html

$65.00 including rings. I still may work on the scope set up. Jim

hex recievers are stronger than the round recievers, plus they look better

i have a new england westinghouse 7.62-54r that someone cut the forearm down to "sporterize it" and it has the shorter carbine barrel.
my father bought this gun about 1968 for 7.00 at a sporting goods store in seattle.
