I've got some 160gr. BTB FNGC sized at .310. I notice in the Lee manual I can use 2400powder, but that is with a jacketed bullet. Can someone recommend a start grain for this powder-bullet combo?

Oops! 308 and a Savage model 111 bolt gun.

Oh, well then...
17.0 gr/1800 fps to 24.0 gr/2200 fps
Personally, I'd stick to the lower end of that with 2400. If you want or need higher speed, I'd recommend AA 5744 as the powder of choice.

Thanks. I'm hoping for about 2000fps. I think if I get them to group good, 2000fps and that big 'ol meplat of that bullet would make a nice doe gitter.

I load my 308 with 40 grains of IMR 4064, using the same 160grain bullet from Marshall.
it works in my BLR, Savage 99,
Remmie700, and M1A/M1
I can get about 2" accuracy at 200 with the m1a, and about 3-4" with the BLR.
the 700 can just about do an inch.
use the same bullet in the 30-30. Great deer bullet.

There is apparently information out thwere that am not available. I checked the Lee, Hornady, and Lyman #48 and there is some hard cast data, however I have H322, 2400, and H4895 at hand. Does anybody have data on these powders? If I had 2000fps or so I could be happy. I just want a doe gitter...freezer food... I'm shooting a 160 BTB.
Thanks

Terry, the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook has lots of data.
For bullets in that weight range (it isn't critical) in .308
H4895 25.0/1750 - 40.0/2500 (compressed load)
They don't show H322, but they do show RL-7 which is a tad faster, so you can safely substitute H322 using RL-7 data. 20.2/1740 - 33.8/2600.
With both powders, a load right in the center of the spread should do ya, and be fine with pressures.

The part where you say " weight isn't critical", that's where I won't make a move without consulting you guys(experts). Thanks so much for the info...timely and usable. I'm gonna go and have fun!
