View Full Version : Sierra 44 mag data
I have the Sierra edition V manual and it says the max load of H110 with a 210 gr bullet is 25.4 grains. The Hodgdon website says 26.0 is a starting load and 27.0 is the max. Whats up with that? A guy I work with gave me 5 rounds of ammo loaded with 26.0 gr of H110 and 210 gr JHC bullets. I've been too afraid to shoot them in my rifle. Should I not be worried?

Reloading max or near max loads for other people's guns (without working up a load) is something I would never do.
Toss them if you're worried about it.

Dew-
To append a little to my above post:
H110 is a fickle powder and i've seen reloading data that recommended only a 3% drop from max loads to get a starting load.
I double checked a couple sources I have and 26.0 grains seems like a reasonable starting load for this bullet/powder combo.
I think I should trust the Hodgdon data since they're the ones who invented H110 powder. I just wonder why my Sierra book is so conservative with the 210 gr bullets.
I went out and tried them tonight. They made the muzzle jump a bit but they dont seem to show any signs of excessive pressure. My Henry Big Boy took it like a man too. I fired one into a gallon milk jug full of water just to see what would happen. It was very impressive. The word devastating comes to mind. Makes me wonder if I should switch to 210 gr bullets for Deer.

Dew,
that Sierra 210 gr. bullet is "devastating" on deer! Just make sure you put it behind the shoulder for a heart/lung shot and it will most definantly be lights-out....
