Hi , my first post is a ? . I have been shooting BP for over 15 years and am now looking at buying a HR Officers Model 45-70 trapdoor. Any concerns with the action on this Model? As all my shooting has been with a muzzleloader I am starting out fresh here.
Thanks for any input

No problem with that action,POPs.
I bought mine when they first came out,in 1973.It's great shooting.I put a globe front sight on it to complement the rear peep sight.
Technicly, the ascion is not as strong as the origional because the hinge on the breech takes some of the recoil. This bends aome folks out of shape, but the action is every bit,as strong because of the modern steel;100 years newer.I test all hot loads with the H&R before using them in my origional Rifle or carbine.
Welcoeto the board, andenjoy that fine rifle.

Thanks for the update. I hd heard the action may pop open under some conditions?? But again it was one of those I heard .. stories. I will only be shooting light reloads of 2F or 777 with a 405 bullet . Thanks again.
