Hey Everybody - I just found this site, and have to tell you all that I appreciate all the knowledge and experience on the boards. I don't think I've ever come across a forum that is quite as large or as a whole expert on a subject. That said, I have a question for the masses:

What do you think about Winchester 101's? I have a buddy that I am meeting with tomorrow who is trying to sell me a .28 ga. Skeet bore. I don't know anything about these shotguns, and to tell you the truth I will probably just resell it if I decide to buy because I will probably be able to get it for around $750 from this friend of mine. What should I look for as far as what adds to the value of the gun? (Besides finish and wear of course). I guess I'm asking what these things are worth and what makes them worth that, i.e. original case, extra barrels, etc. I will try to give him a call and get more info so you can give more informed responses, but right now the only info I have is:

Winchester 101, .28 ga. skeet bore., and I can have it for $750.00

Welcome to the forum wanta68gt. Rules are simple, be nice and join in.

If it's in good shape jump on it with both feet. It's a good buy.

101's are fine guns, well made and they have a loyal following in the upland and skeet world, where your 28 would be a real prize. A 101 in good shape is well worth a price under $800 for the reasons above and when evaluated against other similar guns on the market today.
Though probably intended solely as a skeet gun, I would not hesitate to own this gun for shooting Bobwhite quail and doves.
