I now have two of these, both sporterized. Both appear to have been distributed through Sears in the late 60's early 70's.
One is a Winchester the newest aquisition a Remington.
Anybody else have one of these?
There are a bunch of us that own customized P-17's, though not necessarily bought through Sears.
Back when Remington wanted to compete with Winchester in the pre-WWII days, they produced a Model 30, which was a factory customized P-17 action they had left over from WWI production for the military.

I'll probably have the newest one rechambered to something interesting...
Why do people on this board call it a P-17? Because it's easier to write out than Model 1917?
Made for the British during WWI, the Enfield (Pattern)P-14 was chambered for the .303 British cartridge. When the US entered the fray, not enough 1903's to meet the demand, so the US makers tooled up the Enfield P-14 to the .30 US Ball cartridge (30-06) and it became the Enfield (Pattern) P-17. Both Winchester and Remington manufactured the P-17's for the US Gov't.

During WWI, more U.S.Model 1917 rifles were made by Eddystone (Remington), Remington and Winchester than the total number of 1903s by Springfield and Rock Island Arsenal. The P-17 nearly replaced the Springfield. All the best...
