Well since I have this whole week off and the deer is already in the frig I've been chasing yotes! Here is the fine yote that fell to one shot at 200+ yds with the '06 shooting 125 gr Nosler BT's at 3139 FPS! :D This is just one of many out there as most nights I hear at least 10 to 15 calling! :D
I don't know if this the one I saw last night- I had the Marlin 357 Mag and he was at 250 yds! So that's why the '06 went tonight!
This is a big yote 35lbs!

I havn't even got out deer hunting yet. Had some medical problems that have kept me at home this week, but I've got the 204 sighted in and it's ready for coyotes. I'm hoping to feel well enough to get out this week for deer and a coyote or two would be a bonus.
Are you calling Gunnut or just picking up the ones you see in the fields?
I've several places above where I live where I call.

Sorry to hear your not well! I'll put in a word with you know who! Yep been calling (Rabbit) but both that I've seen have came well after calling had stopped just before dark! This one came from a direction I wasn't looking-no yelps either came down to the waters edge before I saw it moving ,had to turn around to get the shot off as it was trying to figure out what I was! It was a hard shot but I made it. :)

Thanks for the good word GunNut. I sure love shooting coyotes, no gutting, no skinning, no cutting the meat up.
Sure sounds like that coyote surprised you. I've had them come up right behind me and scare the dickens out of me when they figured out what was going on.
Here's one of my favorite calling places up near the old town of Melrose.

This is the Clearwater breaks.

I hunt the breaks of the Clearwater between Peck and Lenore and Big Canyon above Peck. Lots of coyotes here. I'll often see them in the fields on the way to my sets. Makes for interesting shooting when you stop and get out they get into high gear. Sure wish I was a better running shot.
I had a heart attack a couple of weeks back and got a free helicopter ride to Spokane's Sacred Heart hospital. I usually wait til Christmas to do that, but figured I'd get it out of the way early this year, far better to mess up hunting season than Christmas. Lately it seems I've spent almost every Christmas in the hospital with some kind of heart problem.
That fast load with light bullets in the 06 sure ought to be a coyote stopper. My old hunting partner was going to do that with his 308, but, bought a CZ 527 in 204 Ruger just like mine this fall.
Here's another of the Clearwater breaks.

I've got to get it sighted in this weekend if I don't get out deer hunting. He put one of those Burris 4.5 to 14 ballistic plex scopes on it and had to put on different rings to get it to sight in. I just got them on last week before I went into the hospital.

Bob,
Sorry to hear about the attack! The Lord must have plans for you still ! I will be praying for your rapid recovery and the testimony that this offers.
I always envy you your locations and you always gloat by showing them to me. Keep it up! Someday I might live in the country.
Gunnut,
Nice yote. Reminds me of the strays I keep picking up around here. They sure are skitish and unfriendly. Ha, just kidding!

Man that some beautiful country!! Your a lucky man ! I got to travel a few miles(20-30) to get to country like that! The yotes are thick down here this year, I think the fires pushed a bunch out of the mountains! Been a lot of complaints from the farmers and ranches with stock losses! Many cats been going missing as well in town!

Good on ya. Great looking yote.
I miss calling the yotes in Maine. I killed between 35 and 45 every year after I stopped guideing seriously. I had alot of time to devote to the sport.
My 24",.223 and my .220Swift accounted for most. I probably took close to a hundred with my M1 Super 90 over deer kills, during the night hunting season, which was Jan,Feb,Mar,and Apr. It got awful cold though. Sittin' on the cold snow, trying not to move, but still be at the complete ready.
Most people don't know how hard it is to kill a coyote. I ended up guiding coyote hunters because they had killed everything else and they wanted the challenge.
The yotes in Maine were rather large, with a 40 pounder being not uncommon. My largest was 55, and I killed 15 or so that was 50-55lbs. Was told by a state biologist that they had recorded some that were 65lbs,but I never saw one.
Good luck with the coyotes. -----pruhdlr

I know back east they get big -my sister had a pack of them chase her when she was riding horse (WNY) !! But I never got back there much being in the military I've always made it a point to take yotes anytime I see them though I haven't had many chances but after seeing three while deer hunting last year I vowed to shoot any I see even while deer hunting!

Gunnut no snow down here on the Clearwater yet, I haven't been up on the prairie, it's been raining here for the last few days and cold enough that it's probably snow in the high country.
Here's what it looks like on top last winter. I like calling in the snow, the coyotes show up like neon signs. The first shot is Big Canyon at the top of the New Melrose Grade. I live down at the bottom of this canyon.

This shot is of the area around the old town of Melrose. all that's left is the old Church leaning over from the winds, the old one room school and the little one room parsonage.

The wind really blows up on the praire. This old farmstead probably won't last to many more years.

Here's sunset on top. I'm on my way home after doing some calling.
