one thing clear now.. in summer deer are everywhere,,where i hunt..
see them at least twice a night .. so i got set to hunt a place fairly, close to the rd with 150 or more yds visionevery direction,, from my high perch..then comes musket season and all my work is in the toilet.. where i was seeing a couple every day its apparent they have gone much deeper and probably higher..there gone from my area..but we ll see.. ill give ita week . then ill go where i think they may have most likely gone..had not hunted deer before .. werent any deer here,, when i was young hunter..im sure im due to have a few more lessons ..
but im at home in the woods ,,so its just a matter of time,im thinking..good hunting everybody..
by the way no offence to
musket hunters ..i see one reason why you choose that way to hunt.

If you can stand it, sit all day. I have heard it said a lot of times that "Deer become nocturnal from all the pressure" and "Yep you see that deer each day at the same time until hunting season and he leaves the area" Well it will surprise you to know that they tend to stay put a bit more but they are there and something often moves them during the day often when you get tired of sitting and leave. When dogs are used here I have seen dogs totally run all over an area and chase deer out of an area and they are shot at or killed, trucks driving everywhere, yelling and talking,etc.etc. Then someone puts fresh dogs in that area and they jump out more deer. Hunting pressured areas does suck and I complain about it at times myself but there always seems to be something to fill the freezer there.

Oh yeah... Here is another habit a deer has. I have seen guys put dogs in and jump a deer in a block of woods. He runs around and finally gets out and past the hunters. Bang! Bang! Bang! All misses. Dogs follow and the deer gets way ahead of them. Often the dogs may lose the deer or get all caught up by the hunters or what ever. Either way the deer gets away. That deer WILL often go right back to where he was laying! Oh yes and get run again next week. Or killed by us still hunters! They are just big rabbits I guess. I once was part of a dog hunt and the dogs ran a small buck out of a block. He crossed an open area between me and another fellow and neither of us shot. He was really moving! 30 seconds later the dogs came out and crossed where the deer did and chased him to a nearby road where others had gathered to catch dogs or take the deer if they wanted him. Well the dogs came out and the deer never crossed the road! The dogs got caught up but everyone stayed on their post until all dogs were stopped. Well the funny thing was that as we waited I noticed the other fellow had moved to where the dogs and deer crossed. Well here comes this buck trotting right back on the trail he crossed on in the first place! Right out in the open, no dogs, no panic. just going back to where he was hiding. Right into that fellows sights. Think about it if you were chased out and you were able to escape by a good route would you not return?
