I have a 1886 Winchester Extra Lightweight(current issue) and wonder if some of the largre bullets like the Beartooth pile driver will chamber in it? I would also be interesed if it does. My 86 ELW would not chamber rounds loaded with Speer 400 and Laser Cast 405's seated to crimp in the upper cannelure without having to crank down on the lever. Ejected live rounds would have rifleing marks in the bullets. I bought a throating reamer and lengthened the throat by .075" which took care of the chambering problem. I have yet to test fire the rifle. In contrast, my 1972 Marlin 1895 will chamber long seated rounds but ejecting an unfired long round is a problem because of action length.

In regard the the short throats in the Brownchester '86's, you'll find that our PileDriver series of bullets will feed, fire, and function flawlessly through these guns. The ogive forward of the crimp groove is designed such that it chambers effortlessly in these short throated guns and you'll also find that while those throats are short, they are huge in diameter, and your rifles will shoot their very best when fed a diet of .460" diameter bullets!

Give either the 425gWLNGC PileDriver Jr. or the 525gWLNGC PileDriver a try, and you'll be pleasantly surprised!

Thanks for the question.

God bless,

Marshall,

Do you have any good loads for your 425's using 3031 or H335? Those are powders I have on hand These loads would be used in the above mentioned Winchester 86 ELW and my 1972 vintage Marlin 1895.

I have an original Marlin '95, caliber 45/90, Made in 1903. Using the Lee 340 gr. it'll pick turtle headz off at 100 yds. But if I attempt "any" jacketed bullitz, I can't hit a five gallon bucket at 50 yds.. I also rechambered my T.C. Super 16 45-70 to 45-90. My longest shot with the T.C. was a seagull at 550 yds.
