Just got back last night from 12 days of elk camp! Wow, what a great break, a great time and an awesome hunt.

Bagged the best bull of my life on opening day! Triple-four at 130 yards on a bugling bull! What a heart pounder.

Back at camp the next day after a several mile pack out with 80-90 lb meat packs on our backs. I took antlers and meat pack.

What a great bull! What rifle did you use to take him? From the picture it looks like the 1895g. Congrats.

Boy, nice elk Marshall. Sure glad you got to go out. I'm pretty much stuck home this season, durn heart acting up again. Just keep in mind if you hear a knock on your door that's me begging for a steak.

All kidding aside that's a beautiful rack. It looks like the old 444 did it's job again. Have you guys noticed any wolf sign up there? The fella next door told me he saw two wolves where he was elk hunting out of Wieppe day before yesterday.

That is a beauty of a bull Marshall! What excellent mass and points on that brute. You are one tough guy packing meat AND horns in one trip! Looks like you had some good weather, at least when the pics were taken anyway. 12 days....now that is a REAL elk camp vacation. Lose track of what day it is and everything. Congrats!!

Just got the meat back... for an old bull he sure does eat well! Lots of freezer fodder.

In our elk camp we share the meat on the hunt.... he who helps pack out gets an equal portion, so everyone in camp gets elk meat this year, even though mine was the only harvest.

What a great way to share your hunt, with good friends, good times and lastly good eats!

Glad you got a good eater Marshall. Seems most of these Idaho elk have good feed, and even when all beat up and wrung out from the rut, still quality eating. I remember in '98 or '99, one of our hunting crew got a beat up old past-mature bull with one broken antler past the eyeguards. He had three broken (but healed) ribs, not a bit of fat on him, and the meat had a nice blue hue to it! Even at that, although tough, the flavor was good.

Great bull! 12 days of elk camp sounds like the best vacation you could ask for. I've camped for elk many years with no bull to show for it but just being there with good friends and brothers is well worth it. This year I hunted for 8 days with my sons. It's something that I won't forget.
