I know I've read articles in the past of people converting Ruger M77's to .375 H&H very successfully. I've read it more than once I know.

Unfortunately, I can't find those old posts and/or articles anymore but are seriously considering this conversion if it's
possible. I reload, so making loads to shoot at normal power levels is very feasible.

Can someone help me with this???????

thanks

The 375 H&H is available int he magnum length Ruger 77. It would take a little work to get it in the standard long action. You could rebarrel to 375 taylor if you wanted to. You could also rebarrel to the 375 Ruger, which is more powerful than the H&H, and fits in standard actions. Is there a reason you want to convert one. I mean the two are definitely in the same league. Performance wise it's pretty much a matter of personal preference. The 375 taylor is just the 338 necked to 375. The 338 will do about anything the 375 will, at least for North America.

You've made a good point. I get a little carried away with some of this stuff.

This Ruger I just got is absolutely pristeen in .338 win mag. 1982 vintage with less than one box of ammo fired out of it. It's so pretty I almost hate to use it for anything, but that's not me, so I'm going to hunt and shoot with it.

That's why I was considering it in the first place, as this rifle is so nice why not make it something really special. Thinking about it though, as nice as it is, it's already special.

Having used both I agree that there isn't a dimes worth of difference between the 2... In fact just recently I used a 338 Winn with 225 grain TSX and my friend used the 375 H&H with 300 Trophy Bonded Bearclaw.. On large Bison and the 338 was just as effective (if not more so) and penetrated a small amount farther than the 375... The 338 Winn is a very effective cartridge..

If you want to rebore it to 375 Ruger here's a fella that does that type of work and at pretty reasonable prices. Your 338 is on a standard action and though anything can be done you'd be better off with a long magnum action for the conversion to 375 H&H.
