Hi all,
I haven't posted in a long while--I've been fooling around with pistols a bit.
I'm wondering if it is possible to swap the carrier from a 1964 (stamped carrier) model with the carrier (cast) from a Sears Model 100.
I can't get a date on the Sears, but it is identical to the Winchester in almost every detail and was definitely made after 1964.
The Sears has a much smoother action, but doesn't shoot quite so well. I've had some trouble with the Winchester jamming, but it shoots like a dream.
I was thinking that if I could combine the best parts from each that I might have one fine rifle.
Any help, advice, or links to info will be appreciated by me.
Thanks in advance.

I really don't know if they are interchangable, but I do know that Sears does not make any guns. They most likely had them made by Winchester, who probably made them the easiest way;like the rest of the guns on the line.
I would definately give it a try.

Kragman,
I'm aware that Sears didn't manufacture the rifle. It's a Winchester in Sears clothing.
I'm just wondering if anybody made the carrier switch I'm contemplating with success.
Thanks.

Kragman,
Thanks again for the help. I visited leverguns.com and couldn't find the article you mention.
If you can point me a little closer, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,

.
You could have changed it while fooling around with this post and then you would know if it worked. What are you waiting for? Try it and see.

Mr. Bledsoe,
I was waiting for Sunday afternoon. Since I have alot to do, I thought I'd check to see if I'd be wasting my time.
Ok with you?

Kragman,
Thanks again, but no luck for me. The "link" you posted won't come up for me.
I spent about an hour on the lever guns site looking for the thread you mention but couldn't find it.
Can you post in the thread and bring it to the top please? Also, if you told me the subject title of the post it would be helpful.
Thanks...

OK, just to wrap this thread up, you can change the internal parts from a 1964 Winchester with a 1982 Sears Ted Williams Model 100--If you are patient, have about 10 hours, a file, some machinist's dye and a wood chisel.
These parts are different from one rifle to the other:
Carrier--Stamped and long vs cast and short.
Trigger group (including lower tang)--Coil spring and one piece trigger assembly vs flat spring and two part assembly and slotted vs non slotted tang with alignment protrusions (this one drove me crazy)
Lever and bolt actuator--Solid vs roll pins, different grooving, different machining on back-most face.
Firing pin striker--Different angle ground on front face.
Loading port door--Stamped vs cast.
Receiver--Grooved for lower tang vs ungrooved.
Rear stock--Shallow vs deep cut out for trigger group clearance.
Front stock--Clamp vs stamped cap.
Barrel--Smooth for clamp vs welded on lug for stamped front stock cap.
Hammer--Full vs cut out.
Receiver guides--very subtly different in machined angle.
In summary, no two parts are the same except for the mag tube, mag spring, mag cap, and assembly screws.
The receivers are almost the same (which allows the parts to be changed) but each receiver needs to stay mated to its own trigger group.
Don't try this at home....
