All of these are plenty plenty for deer. The 7mm08 will even be good enough for elk given the right bullet. In fact elk have been taken with each of these rounds. The right bullet placed correctly does it every time. Lots of people will argue that these are all too small for elk but they are great for deer.im looking for some input on the diffrences between 257 roberts 6mm 243 260 and 7mm08. are they all enuff for deer.

Jumbo, I've killed a LOT of stuff with my .257 Roberts. It is just one of those cartridges that seems to work all out of proportion to the size.

Haven't used the others... will take it that they all work well.... but I can heartily recommend the .257 R.

One good thing I've found, the cheap 100gr. bulk-pack Remington Cor-Lokt bullets are very reliable killers ... and cheap!

Good luck with your search.

I'd bet the deer wouldn't be able to tell the difference given good bullet for all. The sleeper in the bunch is the 257 Roberts. Kills out of proportion to its size and recoil. A friends wife has one and has killed both a pile of deer and a pile of elk with hers over the years. I just haven't he heart to tell her that it's to small a cartridge for elk. She'd just laugh at me and offer an elk steak to rub in the wound.

jumbo, ive used the 243, 260, and the 7-08.
if i had to choose between the 3 it would definatly be the 7-08. ive killed california deer wyoming deer, and wyoming elk with the 7-08. although the 260 is nice because it has a lot less recoil. the 243 is a deer rifle out to about 200 yrds. but any of these will kill a deer with good shot placement.

It may not matter much, but what state ot what kind of deer are you hunting?

IMHO you cannot go wrong with any of the calibers you listed. This spring I bought a 7mm-08 Remington Model 7 and have shoot Penna. ground hogs at 200 yards. I can't wait to go for white tails.

The 257 is an old favorate of many hunters. I looked at it real hard before I bought a 223. At the time I did not hand load and the 223 was easier and cheeper to get ammo for. Now I kind of wish (sometimes) that I got that Ruger 77 in 257.........
