Seems like the .338 one is pretty cool cosidering that it does it out of a 20" barrel.

I know one thing Hornedy sure has a winner with the 204 Ruger and the new 375 Ruger. Both great cartridges.

I expect the new .338 will be reliable deer, elk, etc. cartridge for folks who understand that magnum status is not a requirement for effectiveness.

This new cartridge reminds me of what Jack O'Connor opined about in some of his writing. He suggested that a 7X57 Mauser case opened up to .35 cal. would make an ideal woods cartridge. It is also reminiscent of the .348 Win.

If I did not have a wonderfully adequate Rem. 700 Classic in 35 Whelen I would be sorely tempted to get a Tikka in the new .338 cartridge. I do not load my Whelen to the max so it produces ballistic performance very close to the new cartridge. IMHO, length of bolt throw is not a critical factor so I don't really give up anything with the longer action rifle.

Actually it's pretty much gone the same velocity out of a 20" barrel that the .338 win. mag has out of a 24" barrel with the same bullet weights (not counting heavy magnum or reloid velocity just regular factory rounds).

Yipee, another cartridge. Just what the world needs. That extra 4" of barrel has really effected my hunting, I'll be glad when I can have a shorter gun to carry. What took so long? I wish Ruger would have developed a sub m.o.a rifle in any caliber instead.....
