If so then please let me hear about your hunt. I'm gathering information on this subject for inclusion in an article I am writing, and would love to have your input.

Thanks, and happy hunting! :D

There is a place at my hunting club that "only I" know about. It is a natural funnel for the hogs coming outta the river swamp, into the planted pine thickets to bed.

This place will be reserved for my Puma 92. It is the SS,16"bbl,chambered in .454 Casull. My load will be the Cast Performance WFN 265's. This is one of my hottest loads and is very accurate with 1" groups @ 25yds(from bench and bag)being the norm.

The place that I have reserved for the little Puma will be a 15-25yd shot and the hogs should be squarely broadside.

I have seen some of the biggest tracks on the club in this area, with 300+ pound boar sign up and down the well sented up trail, through the thick tangle of bamboo and "wait-a-minute" vines.

We'll see if all this comes together for me and the little gun, this year. Seems to be a done deal..............but.............that's why they call it hunting. -----pruhdlr

I am going next Saturday when the season opens. For the first time my model 92 can be used for deer hunting here in Indiana. Previously all centerfire rifles were illegal, now rifles firing pistol caliber cartridges are allowed. I hope to get a success story back to you soon.

Best regards,

Terry

Just got back from Minnesota where I took a running 4x4 at about 110yds with my 20" .357 92.

Blew the right shoulder joint to shrapnel. Down right there.

Hoping for another deer or three on the Dunes State Park reduction hunt on the 26/27th.

Otherwise, I'm just going to take an afternoon or two to walk around Kingsbury to see what I can flush up.

opening day, I hunted with my bolt 7mm-08 out of my box blind. a nice 8 pointer came out behind me, and proceeded to my right side, offering a 20 yard, chip shot, but out my wrong window.... forcing an attempt at a left handed shot. maneuvering the long, bolt rifle took too long to get in position, and I didnt get a shot off. if I'd have had my stubby little .44 Puma along, it'd have been in the skillet now.

I've hunted with the Puma since, but havent had any more opportunities so far.

I shoot .44mag 265 grain Beartooths, and I certainly hope to land one of them on a shoulder soon.

All shots with 20" Rossi .357, C358-180RF @ 1800fps. Iron sights. Off-hand. 2 more shots, 2 more down deer, no runners.

Two does (Dunes State Park) within 30sec of each other. DRT. Hung em up by noon.

First doe was 45yds through a V in some trees, but gave me a nice Neck/Spine shot anyway. Used my Primos hands-free "Buck & Doe Grunt" (set to doe-grunt) to get her to look. DRT.

Second doe didn't even recognise that a gun had been fired (compared to a shotgun the .357 is durn near silent...) I didn't see her/she didn't spook until I had gotten about 10 yds away from Doe #1.

Shot doe #2 at 35yds down hill from doe #1 when she stopped at my grunt. DRT.
Entrance & Exit from Doe#2 (graphic photos as links to preserve random vewers/office sensibilities):

I had assumed the bullet had clipped the spine, but on quartering the carcass it turns out it did not. The bullet track is downward from the point of impact and comes out just in front of the Left leg.

The DNR guys (& the CO) at Dunes State Park were very impressed with my little M92.

I wish you luck and I know you've got a sure deer killer with that .44 load.

Hi, I'm new to this website. I've learned alot of info just browsing through the forums. Here is this years hunting story for ya. Hartford '92 carbine in 44wcf, win. superx ammo. Shot a 6point, 130lb at about 60yds. Shot went in the front chest and came out halfway back on the left side. Buck ran about 30yds and didn't get back up. The rest of the party was pretty impressed with my "little capgun" as they called it. Both holes were big enough to put your finger into. Feel very confident hunting with this caliber out to 100yds. Need to practice more for longer shots. I also own a henry replica and a cattleman replica in the same caliber. Put many different reloads through the henry and it seems to like them all. Plan on running some black powder loads through the carbine this winter and see how it groups. Thanks for listening.
