Can someone post the differences between different barrel contours? Do the numbers represent an industry standard such that if two barrel manufacturers made a specific (same) countour they would be the same?

I can't detect any standard. I pulled up Shilen and Krieger both of which post their contours. Looks like they just measure them however they see fit. Some do offer barrels that are turned to a standard fit for some rifles though. I have ordered barrels before such as Remington Varmint weight that was cut to the same contour as the factory barrel bacause I wanted to use a stock with a factory barrel channel. Don't know if I helped you any flashhole but it's a good question. Maybe someone else has made a bigger comparison than I have.

Hart and Lilja list their contours, and are a bit different.

I think its either MidwayUSA or Brownell's website that has a pdf file of the various contours available from Lilja, Shilen, A&B, etc etc. They do vary a little between manufacturers but not extraordinarily so. One manufacturers #3 may be anothers #4. Then there are "standards" like a Remington sporter match, Savage varmint match etc...

Thanks for the responses guys.......I was hoping for a little more banter on this subject. I'm curious how you start "kitting" a custom gun matching stock to barrel if there is no standard?

flashhole,
If your talking about getting the barrel to fit the stock's existing barrel channel ... well you buy a profile that matches what's coming off. If you alter the barrel contour to something heavier then you need to open the barrel channel up to fit it. Your 'smith will help you out on this.
