BC,

Cant say for sure if it was a Chukar you saw or not. But to this old Chukar hunter the terrain around Kamloops</ST1:p doesn’t fit with the bird. If I were to guess it was more likely a ‘Hun’ or ‘Gray Partridge’…;)

Is this the bird you saw?

I could imagine that there might be chukars wherever there might be mule deer, although I'm not entirely sure where Kamloops is. We have the excellent little bird here in much of Idaho (as well as Huns (Hungarian Partridge)). Great little challenging bird.

Yes there are chukars in BC in the Kamloops area. Actually up through the top end of the Fraser Canyon and then along the Thompson. I have hunted them in the Spences Bridge area in the past and they are fun to hunt. Good eating too!

I have hunted them in Penn. on a preserve, but never seen one in the wild in NJ, NY or Pa.

good eats tho... like grouse tasting

I think that's the birds I saw, Shawn. Man were they moving. There were about 6 of them but no one there knew what I was talking about. I asked at a couple of gas stations and a sporting goods store. Maybe they escaped from a farm or something.
