Took a trip down to my hometown from school this weekend to hunt the 2nd deer weekend in Minnesota. I was planning on hunting with a guy who had some pretty good land lined up for us but that plan fell through.

Where else could I go? The big peice of public land north of town where I've done alot of small game hunting (and have seen deer)? Sure.

When I pulled up to the land at 5:45, lo and behold there was half a dozen trucks waiting. As I left to sit somewhere a couple more parked next to my car. As I walked to sit in the corner of a field alongside a bluff I could clearly see a few blaze orange bodies in the area. The Minnesota River and some sloughs were to the south of me and there was a strong wind coming out of the South.

I was in the woods for most of yesterday and this morning, and it never came as a surprise that the only shooting I heard came from the public land across the river. I never had a reason to take the safety off the entire time I was out :( .

I guess you win some and you lose some. I guess it's only fair that I saw nothing this year 'cause I shot three last year. At least I got out of the city and was able to enjoy being outside.

You're off to a good start there Ekoch! Wish you would have plugged a deer though. I took a pained hiatus from hunting when I was going to school, but I got that time back and you'll get that time back too. Stick with it (school and hunting).
