My father-in-law just died and we seemed to have inherited a rifle. It says Browning (made in Finland), 308 only. It has a serial number 918xx. It has a scope on it.
Can anyone tell me anything about it?
What is it, what is it worth?

Welcome to the forum. I xx'd out the last two digits of the serial number to protect your privacy.
You're welcome to post your email address, but let me caution you that you will generate a huge amount of spam that way. For that reason I deleted it.
If you really want it up there then feel free to reply with it again.

Lever action.
Scope has writing that says 2x-7x Redfield 'I' Tube.
Any info on this thing would be appreciated.
What kind of model is this rifle?

It sounds as if you have a BLR (Browning Lever-action Rifle) which is, in my opinion, perhaps the finest lever actions ever made. It is capable of and offerred in several high velocity cartridges as well as some of the lighter favorites. For me it is quick, fast and reliable. You have a fine scope on it too.
The .308 is an excellent round for deer, black bear, sheep, goat, etc and can stretch to elk with care. WDM Bell called it a near ideal round for braining elephants but I have no experience in braining packaderms.
I had one of these in 257 Roberts and loved it but I let someone talk me out of it, something I still regret. Not as accurate as turn bolts perhaps but plenty accurate enough for me, even out to 250yds+.
The Redfield scope is an older model that was made in the US in Colorado. The "I" tube means it is a one inch diameter body tube requiring one inch scope rings for mounting - a standard scope tube diameter.

Thanks for the info on the model and use of the weapon.
I know nothing about guns. My wife wants to take it to a local gun dealer and sell it. Anyone out there who can give me an idea of a fair price?
How would you go about selling it? Take it to gun dealer or what?
Thanks All!

Take it to a gun dealer in your area and get a valuation or estimate on the retail price in your area. Put an add in the local Money Saver or little Nickel or newspaper. That will get you the maximum dollar for your rifle.
A gun dealer or pawnshop will give you about half it's value. If you can settle for that then sell it to him.
